The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Pathology Presents 11TH ANNUAL Hopkins Cytopathology: A Team Approach Successor to ÒMastering the Challenges of Cytopathology Ó April 15-17, 2010 The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Broadway Research Building Baltimore, Maryland Description Continuing in the tradition of “Mastering the Challenges of Cytopathology”,Hopkins Cytopathology: A Team Approach exposes general pathologists, cytopathologists and cytotechnologists not only to selected problem areas in diagnostic cytopathology, but presents the advantage of working in an interdisciplinary mode. This year we have chosen three challenging diagnostic areas, Thyroid, Pancreas and Urinary Tract, in which close collaboration among radiologists, clinicians and pathologists produces beneficial results. In addition to didactic lectures by leading national experts on the subjects, individual glass slides are shown in real time using high definition video projection, eliminating the need for individual microscopes and allowing everyone to benefit from the discussion of the lecturer and immediate interaction with the registrants. The activity also includes topics that continue to present difficulties for the diagnostic cytologist, emphasizing ways to avoid mistakes. In the interest of resource conservation, we are providing the comprehensive activity syllabus on a USB flash drive during on-site registration. The syllabus will also be made available before the activity at a password-protected web server to allow registrants to review and print selected portions for their use before or during the activity. Who Should Attend This activity is intended for Pathologists, Residents, Fellows and Cytotechnologists. Objectives After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to: * Accurately evaluate cytologic changes in some of the more difficult areas of cytopathology * Appreciate the importance of close collaboration among treating physicians, radiologists, and cytopathologists * Apply new techniques to process and define these challenging samples * Recognize the capabilities and limitations of Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) * Integrate immunocyto diagnosis with flow cytometry, molecular and genetic techniques in routine practice.
