Now in its 55th Year The Philip A. Tumulty TOPICS in CLINICAL MEDICINE at Johns Hopkins May 3 - 7, 2010 Department of Medicine The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Baltimore, Maryland Activity Directors: Gail V. Berkenblit, MD, PhD Daniel J. Brotman, MD John A. Flynn, MD, MBA D. William Schlott, MD Myron L. Weisfeldt, MD This activity has been approved for 30.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. The talks are presented by individual expert faculty members, thus providing a rich breadth of scientific views and insights, standing ahead of other CME courses. DESCRIPTION Topics in Clinical Medicine began 55 years ago with the late Dr. Philip Tumulty's belief that faculty should communicate not only its expertise in internal medicine, but also its collegiality and warmth. To maximize the intermingling between faculty and guests, Dr. Tumulty held the course at Hopkins (not a hotel), provided daily lunches with the faculty and conducted a variety of social events. The current course directors are Drs. Gail Berkenblit, Daniel Brotman, John Flynn, William Schlott, and Myron Weisfeldt. In 2010, Topics remains a course dedicated to providing the best summaries of the advances in internal medicine without pharmaceutical support and extending the hospitality of Johns Hopkins faculty. WHO SHOULD ATTEND This activity is intended for internal medicine, family practice, and hospitalist medicine physicians; physician assistants, and other allied healthcare professionals. "The Tumulty Topics is the best CME course I ever attend." ---Dr. Roger Merril "The Meet-the-Professor Sessions are great minds, approachable professors, and a collegial atmosphere, allowing you to improve your clinical skills and critical thinking beyond your computer's reach." "It reminds me why I went into Internal Medicine." OBJECTIVES After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to: - Apply prognostication tools to patients with myeloma to determine which patients should be treated aggressively - Assess the risk of cardiac surgery in the elderly patient - Recognize and treat the patient with somatization disorder - Identify the signs and symptoms of celiac disease in the adult - Identify common infections that do not require antibiotic treatment ACCREDITATION STATEMENT The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
