Turner Building Baltimore, Maryland Cardiac PET/CT and SPECT/CT: New Technology for Improved Patient Care March 12 -- 13, 2010 Who Should Attend The activity will have special relevance for nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, cardiologists and technologists with a specific interest in cardiac imaging. It will also be appropriate for others who seek to expand their general knowledge about the role of hybrid imaging in medical practice. Description The field of noninvasive cardiac imaging is rapidly evolving towards an integration of the morphologic and functional aspects of coronary artery disease. Evidence is quickly accumulating that the application of hybrid imaging techniques such as PET/CT and SPECT/CT is producing valuable data to better diagnose cardiovascular disease, predict individual risk, and guide treatment based on the individual disease pattern. The emphasis of this activity will be on how to best implement these novel techniques into the clinical practice of imaging labs, how to conduct and interpret the tests, and how to use results to improve cardiovascular care. In addition to didactic presentations by invited leaders in the field and Johns Hopkins experts, there will be opportunities for interactive readout and discussion of actual studies. The program will highlight current state-of-the-art, emphasize open issues requiring further evidence, and conclude with a look into the future of hybrid imaging in cardiovascular disease. Objectives After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to: - Recognize the clinical relevance of integrating morphology and function in coronary artery disease - Develop imaging protocols for PET/CT and SPECT/CT studies of the heart - Interpret cardiac PET/CT and SPECT/CT studies.
