DESCRIPTION This ninth annual conference is intended as a practical overview for pathologists who encounter gastrointestinal and liver specimens in daily practice. Interpretation of biopsies of the upper GI tract mucosa and the liver will be addressed, as well as recent advances in pancreatic and biliary pathology. Case presentation will be featured to emphasize presented concepts. Participants should come away with a better understanding of interpretation of mucosal and liver biopsies, pancreatic/biliary disorders, current concepts in staging, and the application of modern techniques to gastrointestinal disorders. OBJECTIVES After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to: - Present a logical approach towards the diagnosis of key pancreatobiliary lesions - Recognize common pitfalls in the elevation of esophageal biopsies - Describe the use of immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of liver tumors - Summarize the basic concepts and histological changes associated with fatty liver disease - Recognize the importance of accurate colorectal cancer staging - Familiarize with commonly used molecular pathology tools for diagnosis and prognosis in GI pathology.
