Turner Building Baltimore, Maryland Presented by The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Co-presented by the Maryland Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics DESCRIPTION The major focus of this conference will be on commonly encountered problems about which current controversies exist and on aspects which have recently changed patient management. New this year will be the inclusion of workshops on both days, enabling the registrant to have even more interaction with the faculty and obtain additional credit hours. Some of the topics to be covered include asthma, autism, antibiotics for common infections, celiac disease, diabetes, seizures, adolescent gynecology and an immunization update, among others. At workshops, participants will be able to focus on specific clinical areas, including cardiac evaluation, adolescent nutrition, mental health issues, ADHD update, special needs children, child abuse, dermatology and medication use safety. These sessions will provide ample opportunities for registrants to interact with the faculty. WHO SHOULD ATTEND This activity is intended for pediatricians, family practitioners, nurse practitioners and physician assistants involved in providing primary care for infants, children and adolescents. OBJECTIVES After attending this activity, participants will demonstrate the ability to: v Recognize significant heart murmurs and know when to refer to a cardiologist v Incorporate new guidelines for lipid screening into their practice v Recognize and manage celiac disease in children v Incorporate new immunization recommendations into their practice v Manage the transition of pediatric patients to adult care ACCREDITATION STATEMENT This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Maryland Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics.
