ACE Recognition Program™

What is the Educational Initiative on Constipation (EIC) ACE Recognition Program™?

The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in collaboration with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners is proud to cosponsor the Educational Initiative on Constipation (EIC) ACE (Award for Clinical Excellence) Recognition Program™. This program, part of the EIC activity, is a voluntary, non-financial component intended to acknowledge the achievements of healthcare providers that expand their knowledge, skills, and attitudes by participating in this continuing medical education (CME) activity.

Program Goals

  1. Improve the quality of care and outcomes in the management of patients with constipation by recognizing health care professionals who have participated in the EIC and have integrated those learnings into their practices
  2. Encourage other health care professionals to seek optimal quality-of-care strategies and integrate those learnings into their practices in order to improve clinical outcomes

Eligibility and Application for Recognition

Eligible candidates must meet ALL of the following requirements:

  • Must be a physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant who is registered for the EIC initiative and completes a minimum of 10 credits
  • Must participate in and complete the performance improvement component of the EIC activity
  • Must demonstrate, through the performance improvement component, improved patient care and outcomes relevant to IBS-C and chronic constipation

Applying for the ACE Recognition Program™ requires the following:

  1. Completing an EIC ACE Recognition Program™ Letter of Commitment
  2. OPTIONAL: Administering patient satisfaction surveys during the performance improvement component

For more detailed information about eligibility and the application process, please visit the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine CME Center Web site at www.hopkinscme.edu/ofp/eic; call 201-984-3332, ext 4; or send an e-mail to EICinfo@gullapalliandassoc.com.

Who receives recognition and how?

Nine health care professionals (3 physicians, 3 nurse practitioners, and 3 physician assistants) will be recognized based on the eligibility criteria described above. The course directors, the executive director of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and the Director of Research and Education at the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners will identify the 9 health care professionals (3 physicians, 3 nurse practitioners, and 3 physician assistants) based on the eligibility criteria described above.

Why should a healthcare professional apply for this recognition program?

Participation in the recognition program enables the health care professional to provide optimal care for patients with IBS-C/chronic constipation. The recognition program also allows health care professionals to assess and evaluate their current practice performance to determine what improvements and changes need to be made.

In addition, recognition will convey to other participants, peers, patients, and the community that the health care professional provides quality care in the management of patients with IBS-C/chronic constipation.

How will the general public and the healthcare community be aware of the recognition of these healthcare professionals?

Health care professionals who are recognized will be publicized through several ways:

  1. Recognition through a national public relations campaign that includes print, new, and live media
  2. Recognition through a personalized letter of acknowledgment of clinical excellence from the Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
  3. Listing on the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Web site for a period of 12 months

What are the application fees?

There is no fee to apply. Registration for and participation in the EIC activity and the ACE Recognition Program™ are free.
