Last week we held a very productive meeting with some of our education partners. Dr Dorman gave an update on the state of the Office of CME followed by a light lunch.

After lunch the group tackled a number of important topics. The initial discussion centered around how we might be better partners. The overall response to this was quite gratifying. As a whole there were not any major issues that they felt we could significantly improve upon. Numerous accolades were actually provided. Since we are dedicated to always learning and improving we look forward to meeting with the partners in the future and again asking this question.

The group also discussed potential ramifications of the Sunshine Act as well as collaborative models of education design and implementation. OCME was excited to hear that there was a lot of support for a growth in collaborative models.

Finally the group was asked if they felt the afternoon was worthwhile and a resounding yes was heard. Consequently we will look to hold this sort of gathering again in the future.

Having achieved Accreditation with Commendation has been a wonderful experience. We have received congratulatory comments from the Dean of the School of Medicine/ CEO of the hospital, the Vice-dean for Education and a personal call from the hospital president.

Numerous individuals from our partners have also sent congratulations. These range from President and CEO of some of the MECCS, Dr Ognibene from the NIH and our extended family down in St. Petersburg at All Children’s.

I have been stopped in the hallway by colleagues and have received calls from associates in the CME community from around the country.

This rating represents all the hard work the staff puts into to making sure we provide high-quality evidence-based education that meets the regulations of the AMA, the accreditation standards of the ACCME and our own Hopkins standards.

We are proud of our performance and we will indeed celebrate, but we will not rest here. As a learning organization we will continue to look for opportunities to advance our mission and to improve our processes.

Senior Associate Dean for Education Coordination

Today, March 27th, 2012, we have been informed by the ACCME that we have received Accreditation with Commendation…the highest level (level 3) of accreditation possible!

Less than 20% of providers who apply for accreditation receive such a standing. Accreditation with commendation status means our accreditation is now extended to March of 2018.

Special thanx goes to Etta Bates who did significant lifting in the writing of our self-study and in the overall management of the process across a 18 month window. Of course, none of this is possible without the significant dedication of each and every member of our CME team. Our registration, front office and customer relations staff are our “face” to most of our attendees and without them our customers would be less engaged in the process. Our coordinating teams are extremely important as they are the boots on the ground of getting the job done from travel planning and meeting management to the aspects of quality education. They deal with the planning committees, the activity directors and all of the faculty. They also help keep us on the straight and narrow with our partners. Accounting keeps us on point and now closes accounts at rates we never dreamed of before. Our IT systems are some of the best in the business and help us everyday meet the high standards of the ACCME. The leadership team has astutely helped steer us through a new world of CME and an entirely new accreditation process.

We also owe a debt of gratitude to our partners whether at the NIH, medical education and communication companies, at Carey School of Business and at All Children’s In St Petersburg

THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS!

In response to your requests, we’ve made some exciting changes to our website!

Transcripts or Certificates?
A new option for printing a transcript of CME credits awarded by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is now available. The transcript can be printed for all CME credits OR you can enter a date range to print a list for only that specific time period. This will make it even easier for you to document your CME credits and not have to keep up with multiple certificates for individual activities. For those of you that prefer a traditional certificate, you still have that option.

You’ll also be able to track your CME credits awarded by other institutions using the “Update Your Credit Records” feature. These non-Hopkins CME credits will not appear on your printed transcript – it’s simply a feature to help you track your total CME credits in one place.

Enduring Materials have moved!
Many of you told us that you had a hard time finding our enduring material activities on the CME Calendar. So, we moved them! Only Live activities (including Live internet broadcasts) will appear on the CME Calendar tab. We moved all enduring material activities to their own tab – Online/Enduring. The new tab is on the top menu bar right next to the CME Calendar tab that’s always been there. You can still search by keywords and other filters to find the activities.

This website is for YOU, so continue to tell us when you have ideas for improvements to make it easy for you to find and participate in our activities!

As part of our ACCME reaccreditation process we hosted two surveyors on Monday November 14th for a face-to-face review session.

The surveyors had only a few clarifying questions regarding the Self Study but nothing major. They asked for clarification on all of the following items:

our role in working with NIH

our policy on Faculty Honoraria

description of the types of supporting documents we require for Needs/Gaps</li

the role of the Peer Reviewer identified in our eApplications

Additionally, they had a few questions regarding the activity files that were reviewed. Again, most of these were just questions to be sure they understood what we provided or to seek clarity of materials not provided for activities that had not yet been completed as of the filing date

The next steps are as follows:

The ACCME may request additional information. If so we should receive that request in the next few weeks and then would have approximately two weeks to respond.</li?

In February, the Accreditation Review Committee (ARC) at the ACCME will review the surveyor’s reports and make their determination of what level of accreditation they believe our self study, files and interview warrants.

In March, the ACCME Board will make the final decision of what level accreditation we will receive for the next term. The March board meeting is at the end of the third week, so we should be notified by the last week of March 2012.
