Description:
In the mid-Atlantic region, there are a number of new centers that are developing to fill a niche of high level specialized cerebrovascular care in the setting of the intensive care unit. This activity will outline the standard of care, as applied in internationally-recognized cerebrovascular centers. Our goal is to educate general and surgical intensivists from the region on the appropriate care of these patients in the ICU and their options for triage.

Objectives:
After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:
- Define uses pertaining to critical care that are unique to the neurologically injured patient.
- Recall the pathway required to effectively care for patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
- Recognize the limitations to intravascular treatment in care of patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.
- State the agents used in the neurologically impaired patients to treat hypertension.
- Name the tests and drugs commonly used to treat seizures in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit.
