The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine designates this educational activity for a maximum of 16.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit®. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has assigned 15 cognate credits to this program.

Description:
T his activity reviews the latest developments in the understanding of the normal anatomy and function of the pelvic floor as a background for evaluating and managing the various alterations critically using currently available tools. Focusing on the circumstances leading to deleterious effects of parturition and surgical treatment on pelvic floor and organ function, it reviews the added effect of aging on bladder and urethral functions in deciding on the optimal long term choice of treatment. Potential hazards of the latest technological innovations and their avoidance and management are reviewed.

Objectives:
After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:
- Evaluate the anatomy and physiopathology of incontinence, pelvic sfunction and pelvic relaxation
- Provide proper counseling to patients contemplating pregnancy and long rm advice for the post-menopause
- Better assess and counsel patients regarding the varied options of atment and their potential failure
- Critically choose optimal indication of surgical material and procedure
- Assess and review critical anatomical relationships and most recent rgical techniques
- Evaluate hands-on what he/she needs of the various available techniques
- Describe urodynamic evaluation and define useful parameters for diagnosis and treatment
