This course is approved for self assessment module (SAM) credit by the American Board of Pathology and addresses the ACGME competencies of Medical Knowledge and Systems-Based Practice.

Description:
This ninth annual conference is intended as a practical overview for pathologists who encounter gastrointestinal and liver specimens in daily practice. Interpretation of biopsies of the upper GI tract mucosa and the liver will be addressed, as well as recent advances in pancreatic and biliary pathology. Case presentation will be featured to emphasize presented concepts. Participants should come away with a better understanding of interpretation of mucosal biopsies, liver biopsies, pancreatic/biliary disorders, current concepts in staging and the application of modern techniques to gastrointestinal disorders.

Objectives:
After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to:
• Present a logical approach towards the diagnosis of key pancreatobiliary lesions
• Describe the use of immunohistochemistry in the diagnosis of liver tumors
• Summarize the basic concepts and histological changes associated with fatty liver disease
• Recognize the importance of accurate colorectal cancer staging
• Familiarize with commonly used molecular pathology tools for diagnosis and prognosis in GI pathology.
