ACCREDITATION STATEMENT
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, The University of Puerto Rico and the University of Mainz, Germany. Description:
The 10th Annual Gastroenterology and Hepatology: Viva la Vida will provide, through formal lectures, question and answer sessions as well as audience interactive systems, presentations of various gastrointestinal and liver disorders that will be of interest to practitioners in the field. This year will feature a symposium on challenging clinical scenarios and an update on several aspects of liver disease. A special symposium dedicated to the multidisciplinary approach to obesity will be featured. Topics in gastrointestinal bleeding, including recent and exciting developments, will be discussed by a team of experts. Registrants will be able to learn of new imaging and therapies for patients with inflammatory bowel disease, including the role of surgical treatment. Presentations on esophageal disease will include an update on GERD, Barrett’s Esophagus and esophageal cancer. Registrants will also learn of new developments in eosinophilic esophagitis.
Objectives:
After attending this activity, the participant will demonstrate the ability to –
• Discuss the indications and outcomes on patients having liver transplantation
• Outline the current advances and management of colonic disease
• Evaluate the medical and surgical management of patients with Irritable Bowel Disease
• Describe the multidisciplinary management of obesity
• Recognize recent advances in management of esophageal disease
• Describe current treatment options for gastrointestinal bleeding
